Part of my goal with my Louisiana food series is to spread awareness about local favorites- a chance to draw favorite foods of my childhood, and talk to others about them. Tabasco holds a special place in my heart- to me it's the definitive American hot sauce. Vinegary and spicy, Tabasco packs an acidic punch that pairs perfectly with fried catfish. As a kid, my cousins and I would dare each other to down the tiny souvineer bottles- I never quite finished one. During Hurricane Katrina, tiny bottles of Tabasco sauce made MREs' somewhat tolerable, and when I lived in Nashville, Tabasco at Fido (a local restaurant run by a New Orleans expat) reminded me of home. Now I'm back, and no lie, it would be a DREAM to create art for Tabasco and Tony Chachere's.
